As costs rose in the 2000s, complexity and realism were traded for affordability and playability. By the 2010s, designs became more basic. Still fun, but less detailed. While premium collector editions preserved some of the original craftsmanship, the mainstream shifted to meet the needs of younger, cost-sensitive audiences.
